http://www.nobelcenter.se | http://www.nobelprize.org Note: This is an updated version of the film that was originally published along with the announcement that David Chipperfield Architects won the competition to design the Nobel Center in 2014. A unanimous competition jury has selected David Chipperfield's and Christoph Felger's slender brass-clad building as the winner in the Nobel Center architectural competition. An internationally recognised architectural office with extensive experience of culturally historical environments will thus become the partner that will help make the new home of the Nobel Prize in Stockholm a reality. "We are extremely excited and honoured to have been selected to be the architects for the Nobel Center. We look forward to working together to develop a building that reflects both the values of the Nobel Prize and the high expectations of the citizens of Stockholm," says architect David Chipperfield. According to the statement of the jury, the proposed building has an elegant, timeless and attractive external appearance with a clear identity of its own. The revised façade design, with its shimmering vertical brass elements and glass, has a lofty elegance and quality that can be associated with the position of the Nobel Prize. At the same time, the building has a lightness and openness that are appealing and consistent with the Nobel Foundation's explicit ambition to seek contact with and open up the Center to the general public. The transparent ground floor helps create a pleasant setting in the immediate vicinity of the building, thereby also enriching the urban public space. Meanwhile the building's moderate footprint creates good opportunities for a public city park in a sunny south-east position. The jury is of the opinion that after additional refinement in collaboration with the client and with public authorities, the proposal can lead to a dignified, exciting and inviting Nobel Center building while helping create a better, more engaging and beautiful urban setting on the Blasieholmen peninsula in central Stockholm. "We view the winning proposal as a concrete interpretation of the Nobel Prize as Sweden's most important symbol in the world. Stockholm will gain a building -- monumental but without pomp, powerful yet graceful -- with qualities like those the City Hall gave the capital a century ago," says writer Per Wästberg, member of the Swedish Academy and Chairman of the Nobel Committee for Literature. "We view the winning proposal as a concrete interpretation of the global importance enjoyed by the Nobel Prize. Stockholm will gain a new building marked by timelessness and qualities that parallel those the City Hall gave the capital a century ago," says writer Per Wästberg, member of the Swedish Academy and Chairman of the Nobel Committee for Literature. In the now-completed second stage of the competition, the jury assessed proposals from three finalists: David Chipperfield and Christoph Felger från David Chipperfield Architects Berlin (Germany), Johan Celsing from Johan Celsing Arkitektkontor (Sweden) and Gert Wingårdh from Wingårdh Arkitektkontor (Sweden). The ambition is to make the Nobel Center one of Stockholm's most attractive destinations, including public spaces for exhibitions, programme and school activities, events and interdisciplinary meetings of various kinds.

Here are 10 of the greatest cities with the most amazing architecture structures in the entire world. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 5. Rome Built in 72 AD, the Colosseum is mostly damaged today but is still one of the best works of Roman architecture ever created. Its design is so perfect that it's still utilized in amphitheaters to this day. In its heyday, the structure could hold up to eighty thousand spectators. Of course, plenty has happened in the city since the Colosseum was built. The city is regarded as the epicenter of Baroque architecture and many of the towns Baroque squares were constructed in the 17th century and still contain some incredible buildings. St. Peter’s Basilica was completed in 1626 and is an excellent example of Baroque Renaissance architecture. For an impressive modern design, the Ara Pacis Museum lies on the Bank of the Tiber River and its contemporary design ensures that no one will mistake it for being a part of the cities ancient history. The MAXXI Museum took ten years to build before it was finally completed in 2009. The remarkable structure was well worth the wait. 4. Bilbao (Bill Bow) Bilbao may not be as well known internationally as Madrid or Barcelona, but its architecture is world renowned, and the Spanish city has a great variety of beautiful buildings both modern and from the past. The Guggenheim Museum was designed by renowned Canadian architect Frank Gehry and was inaugurated in 1997.The San Mames Stadium was opened in 2013, will be one of thirteen venues to host matches for UEFA Euro 2020 and won an award for the Sports Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival in 2015.The Cathedral of St. James is a Gothic style church that was built during the 14th to 15th century as was the Church of Saint Anthony the Great. The latter church is featured along with the San Anton Bridge on the city’s coat of arms. 3. Berlin German parliament picked an exquisite place to congregate when architect Norman Foster finally reconstructed Reichstag in 1999. The building was originally opened in 1894 and remained open until 1933 when a young Dutch communist set the structure on fire. The Nazi’s used the attack as evidence that the communists were plotting against the German government and the event is seen as a significant step in the establishment of Nazi Germany. After World War Two the building fell into disuse and disrepair for years. Potsdamer Platz was a famous intersection that became separated by The Berlin Wall in 1961. When the wall fell the intersection became an important place, both architecturally and symbolically and some of the world's finest architects were asked to design its remarkable buildings, including the Bahn-Tower, the Kollhoff Tower, the Sony Center and the Daimler complex. 2. Dubai The Arab cities most popular building has to be Burj Khalifa as it dominates the skyline towering 2,723 feet above the ground. It’s the tallest building in the world so of course, it's going to be very well known, but there are plenty of other building in Dubai that are equally as breathtaking. Erected just across the street from the Burj Khalifa the Address Downtown has remarkable exterior lighting and a unique asymmetric design concept. The two are separated by the largest choreographed fountain system on the planet, The Dubai Fountain. The Burj Al Arab is a sail-like structure that is home to one of the most luxurious hotels in the world and a helipad at the top that has hosted a number of stunts including a made for TV tennis match between Roger Federer and Andre Agassi. Standing just over one thousand feet high the Cayan Tower is the most breathtaking sight in the Dubai Marina with a 90-degree twist that is hard to fathom. Dubai is one of the most modern cities in the world, so there’s not a lot of historical or traditional buildings, but the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood is still a good place to see some traditional Arab architecture and to get a feel of what the area was like a century ago. 1. Athens In ancient Greece Athens was the heart of the mighty empire and it’s people’s greatest architecture was erected within its borders. The Acropolis, an ancient citadel overlooks the city and contains the Parthenon, the Erechtheum, and the Propylaea( propiley). At the foot of the Acropolis lies the ancient Theatre of Dionysus, which when it started being used in the sixth century could hold as many as seventeen thousand people. Its acoustics were remarkable especially because it was the first stone theater ever built. While most of these ancient structures are at least partially damaged, the city is a must visit for any aspiring architect or history lover. The Acropolis Museum lies on the southeastern slope of the Acropolis hill just three hundred and ten yards away from the Parthenon. First opened in June of 2009 the museum holds around four thousand objects found in and around the Acropolis.
